David Bertoni and Eamonn Hart to Teach Advanced Civil Procedure at University of Maine Law School

David Bertoni and Eamonn Hart will offer a course on “Advanced Civil Procedure” at the University of Maine Law School beginning in the Fall 2022 semester. The course will focus on issues in complex civil litigation, with a particular focus on class actions. Topics will include the theories underlying class actions, the applicable rules and statutes, and the practical aspects of litigating class actions, including identifying a class and properly drafting a complaint, litigating certification, and managing class settlement. The course will also examine the rise of arbitration agreements as a mechanism used by the defense bar to combat class actions, as well as the techniques advanced by the plaintiff’s bar to contest such agreements.
